
Drayton Wins 6 to 5 over Durham in Overtime
In Durham local league atom hockey the Huskies faced off with Drayton. Durham was the first on the scoreboard at 8:59 on a shot by Owen Schenk assisted by Mitchell McNabb. Meanwhile Drayton managed to slip through the Huskies defense and scored moments later at 8:25 on a shot by Maryrose MacKenzie assisted by Anthony Martin. Then again another breakaway saw Drayton score at 5:51 by Anthony Martin unassisted. In the last minutes of the first period Drayton scored off a scramble in front of the Huskies not on a rebound tip in by Aaron Brown assisted by Joel Burnett and Matt Brown.
In the second period the Huskies charged back to score at 3:12 on a high shot by Nick Kilpatrick assisted by Jarrett Hooper. However minuted later the Huskies defense failed to stop a breakaway by Tyson McLean whom scored at 5:56 unassisted. Both teams continued to battle hard for the rest of the perod.
In the third period scored at 13:41 with a series of shots at the Huskies net and Drayton kept digging at the Durham goalie and shovelled the puck in. The goal went to Tyson McLean assisted by Matt Brown and Becca Martin. However the Huskies dug in their heels and with a refound spark and pistons blazing came back with a goal ay 9:53 by Darcy Hooper assisted by Kurtis Watson and Mitchell McNabb. Another goal by Owen Schenk at 4:37 assisted by Mitchell McNabb and Darcy Hooper. As the clock was ticking down the last seconds of the game Owen Schenk tied the game with 42 seconds to go assisted by Mitchell McNabb.
This placed the game in overtime and both teams were in a mad frenzy to score the next goal. In a classic edge of your seat overtime, the games excitement peaked when Draytons Anthony Martin skated through the Huskies and scored on a high shot that went under the top crossbar. Drayton won this one 6 to 5.
