Huskies Trample Lucknow
Submitted By Alex Neuman on Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Second round opened up in Lucknow last night with the Durham Huskies pulling away with a 4-3 win over the Lancers.  Solid netminding from rookie goalie Tanner Ronka and strong offence and tough defence all aided to the Huskies big W.

Scoring opened up in the 1st period with Braedon MacLachlan burying a rap-around on the Power Play.  Captain Bobby Sullivan and Alex Neuman threw in assists on MacLachlan's 4th goal of the Post Season.  Lancers still coming at the Huskies strong, but that didn't stop Neuman from centering a pass to Sullivan and Sully putting the Biscuit in the Basket on a little 4 on 4 action.  With a 2 goal lead in the 1st, the game was looking good for the Huskies and even better when MacLachlan sunk his 2nd goal of the game and 6th point of the playoffs, Mark Hopkins and Garret Kaufman picked up helpers on that beauty.  But that didnt stop the Lancers.  Huskies with a 2 man advantage seemed to forget about the cherry picker floating at Durham's blue line.  Lancers ended up with a break away and making the score 3-1 early in the second.  The rest of the second would remain scoreless.  Defenceman Turner Hettrick had to be assisted off the ice after a brutle knee on knee hit.  After reviewing they play with the linesman the referee decided there was no penalty needed to be assessed, although Durham seemed to disagree.  After pep-talk from the coaches during the 2nd intermission huskies opened the scoring in the 3rd with Defenceman Lucas Johnson breaking to the net and Neuman saucing out a beauty for Johnson to tip and make the Score 4-1.  Huskies started to play more defensively with the game winding to an end, but Lancers kept coming strong.  Durham killed of another 5 on 3 but lancers quickly scored after with the extra attacker on the ice.  Score now 4-2 Durham with the empty net Durham was doing all they could to get the puck out, but after many scintillating saves by tendy Ronka one snuck passed him and diminished the Huskies 3 goal lead to a lowly 1 goal lead in the dying seconds on the third.  But strong defensive plays by all the Huskies they got the puck out and down the ice defeating the Lancers 4-3 in a classic barn burner.

Great job by all the Huskies and be ready for game 2 of the Best of 5 Series tonight Tuesday, January 19th at the Durham Arena.  Puck Drop is at 9:00 PM. Lets go HUSKIES!
