Midget LL Huskies Win Two out of Four
Submitted By Darlene Melanson on Sunday, January 04, 2009
The Midget LL Huskies played their last four games of 2008, and managed to win two out of the four.  First, the Huskies travelled to Southampton to play the Saugeen Shores Storm on Dec. 12. In the first period, Kyle Green started the scoring for the Huskies with a power play goal, assisted by Matt Surridge and Curtis Caswell, to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.  Then, late in the second period Surridge scored another goal for the Huskies, assisted by Cayle Anderson and Green, to take a 2-0 lead. Finally in the third period, Green scored two more goals, giving him a hat trick, with assists by Ken Campbell, Caswell, and Luke Ronka, to take a 4-0 lead over the Storm. Just as it looked like goalie Justin Paylor was going to get a shut out, the Storm scored two goals in an attempt to make a comeback, making the final score 4-2 for the Huskies. The three stars of the game were Green, Surridge, and Paylor.

The Huskies played a home game against the Walkerton Capitals on Dec. 16, and were defeated 6-3. Goal scorers for this game were Chris Giles, Nathan Thompson, and Green, with assists by Mitch Elvidge, Brandon Stevens, Anderson, and Caswell. After that, the Huskies travelled to Chatsworth on Dec. 19 to play the Chatsworth Rebels, in a very action-packed and exciting game. The Rebels started the scoring in the first period, but the Huskies responded with a goal scored by Ronka and assisted by Green, to tie the game. In the second period, the Rebels came back with another goal, to take a 2-1 lead over the Huskies. Then things got quite crazy in the third period, which was filled with penalties, adding an exciting spin on the game. Anderson scored for the Huskies to tie the game 2-2, assisted by Green.  Next, Green scored two goals, one unassisted and the other assisted by Caswell. Finally, Stevens scored, assisted by Caswell, giving the Huskies a 5-2 lead. The Rebels then scored one more goal late in the period, to make the final score 5-3 for the Huskies. This win was a fantastic effort on the Huskies part.

The Huskies faced the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs, on home ice, on Dec. 23. The Huskies managed to take the lead at first, then the game was tied, but the Huskies were defeated 6-3 in the end. Those who scored goals were Green (2), the first assisted by Caswell and Nathan Melanson, and the second unassisted, and Dylan Cremona assisted by Cole Hollands.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
