Three Game Week for Peewee Huskies
Submitted By delvidge on Monday, December 15, 2008
Although the local Huskies peewee squad deserved better on their recent road trip, they couldn't solve the red hot goalies they faced and suffered 3 losses.
The first stop on the two game road swing was in Harriston last Wednesday to face a very strong opponent in Minto. The locals played a fierce game, out playing their hosts for the better part of the game. Unfortunately, in hockey it is the score that determines the winner and Minto managed 3 in the first, 1 in the second and 3 more in the third for a lopsided 7-3 win. Logan Burgess netted the hat-trick for Durham, with Ryan Melanson and Dylan Pust assisting on the first and third markers and Colton Cook aiding Burgess on the second tally.
Game 2 of the swing was in Clinton on Saturday where BCH was hosting. The much bigger BCH team scored 8 unanswered goals for an 8-0 shut-out. Durham played a very energetic game, showing a lot of winning desire but couldn't get their finishing touch going.
The third and last game of a busy week had Durham at home, hosting rival Hanover. Once again with a full squad expectations of victory were the order of the day, as the Huskies hit the ice. Those expectations fell away quickly as the locals couldn't find their legs and found themselves down 1-0 after one. The second saw more of the same as Durham trailed 3-1 after 2. Cook netted the home side goal when he out raced the defense and ripped in a wrist shot, Sam Lawrence drew the assist. Down but not out the home team regrouped for period three but could only manage a stnza tie for a final score of 6-3. Burgess netted Durham's second tally when deposited a pass from Lawrence and Blake Nelson. Mitch Hooper with his first of the season, rounded out Durham's scoring when he pounded in a pass from Burgess.
Durham continues their busy schedule this weekend with a game in Mt. Forest on Sunday and a home game with Mildmay on Tuesday.
