Novice LL Fight Team Illness at Durham Tournament
After ending the day at the Ayton tournament on January 10th as the
undefeated champions, the Durham Novice LL had a much tougher fight at
the Durham tournament on Saturday January 31st losing in the final to
Minto.
The first game of the day against Mount Forest was a battle with our team short players who were sick and some who were on the ice but under the weather. Jordon scored the only Durham goal unassisted. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie. Overtime solved nothing and the team played in their first shoot out of the year. The parents were more nervous than the kids. Seth made 3 great saves and the post helped on the fourth. Durham won the shoot out 2-1 with goals scored by Mitchell and Ty. For the second game of the day against Kincardine, Durham played with a full roster, with many still under the weather. This game was similar to the first, Durham had more shots but had a hard time finding the back of the net. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie, the only goal was scored by Kurtis and assisted by Ty and Darcy. Durham was in overtime again, but this time Ty ended the game with a sudden death goal assisted by Kurtis and Darcy. The last game of the day was the final against Minto. The game was intense. Durham was on the board first with a goal from Brady and assisted by Kurtis and Mitchell. Minto came back with 4 unanswered goals and took the lead 4-1 late into the third period. Ty scored Durham's second goal unassisted with under a minute left. With the goalie on the bench Durham put the pressure on Minto but could not score. Hats off to our MVP's of the day, Ty and our superb goalie Seth. These awards were chosen by the opposing team's coaches. Cheers to the rest of the boys who played very well as a team to entertain the fans! The team consists of Seth Lawrence as goalie, Brady Parrott, Darcy Hooper, Owen Schenk, Michael Schipprack, Christopher Graham, Ty Heipel, Kurtis Watson, KC Cherry, Mitchell Kraus, Nick Kilpatrick, Jordon Ferrier and Jacob Sullivan. Thanks once again to our coaches and trainers on the bench keeping the boys under pressure to give all that they have to play a superior game of hockey; Mike Heipel, Matt Lawrence, Brad Parrott, Duane Watson and Adam Cherry. Many thanks also to the team manager Andrea Heipel and the tournament convenor Andrea Watson for a fabulously, well organized day.
